About
Most of my career has been spent close to the silicon. The rest of it, increasingly, goes into writing about where computing is heading, and backing the founders building the future.
Tech nerd
Engineer first
Every job I have had, past and present, shares one thread: how compute gets built.
At Western Digital/HGST I built platform firmware for enterprise SSDs, the layer where critical data lives and is managed. Across two separate stints at NVIDIA, I worked on both GPU hardware architecture and GPU system software, sitting between the silicon and the stack that has to make it useful. At Black Sesame Technologies I have run NPU architecture, architecture modeling, and hardware-software co-design. It is the same question asked again for AI accelerators: decide what the compute system should be before anyone builds it.
Angel investor
Early checks, and the work that follows
I write early checks to founders solving real problems, across industries. I am a member of Rockies Venture Club, Colorado's angel investing network.
What interests me most: AI infrastructure, space, life sciences, and medical devices. The hard question is not only whether it can be built. The harder ones are whether the market wants it, and whether the business is fundable and sustainable.
The check is the smaller half of it. I also help founders with pitch and fundraise prep. Most deep-tech pitches fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the technology, and those are fixable before you walk into the room.
Writer
Why I write
I write to think, I write to share, and I write to improve by receiving honest feedback.
In the age of AI, knowledge is far easier to obtain, but judgment is significantly harder. I write to get out of my own information echo chamber and to challenge myself.
If any of it turns out to be useful to someone else, I am grateful.
Personal life
Away from the screen
A passionate horseback rider and horse trainer. An about-average skier. I love to read, but only on paper. I enjoy good beers and fine wines, and both taste better with friends. My family lives in Colorado, and we love playing soccer and board games together.
